How do you define Ready to Drink?

People’s opinions of ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails are changing daily.  Historically, if you asked the sophisticated cocktail drinker about RTDs, the word “overly sweet” may have been a part of their or experience.  Today, a new generation of RTD cocktail products is reshaping the sector and helping it lose its image of sweet mixes.

RTDs have always been a convenient way to maintain an active lifestyle.   RTD are a convenient option for those with hectic schedules while they can also be an attractive option for those who don’t have the knowledge to prepare their own cocktails…to make a cocktail that tastes like the one from their favorite cocktail bar.

RTD drinks can be found at your local retail store as well as venues from restaurants to stadiums and airlines to cruise lines.  A great RTD Bloody Mary with breakfast doesn’t need the services of a bartender and stadiums can keep the concession lines moving quickly with pre-mixed gin and tonics.  There is nothing more convenient than an RTD cocktail—just chill, open, and serve.

What’s missing from the “chill, open and serve” feature is taste.  In order for a canned drink – any canned drink – to deliver on flavor, it needs to be poured to a cup or glass.  When drinking from a can, the flavor is delivered from a small opening within an aluminum lid. The first thing your nose breathes in is the aroma of aluminum.  That begs the question, if you need a separate cup or glass to maximize aroma and taste, is truly “ready to drink”?

A new company called Red Cup Spirits has addressed this issue with an innovative can design that completely eliminates the need for a separate cup or glass.

What’s been missing from the current lineup of RTDs is flavor from the first sip of the can.  When attempting to drink an RTD directly from the can, the small aperture does not allow the aroma to escape.  Studies have shown that 80% of taste is from aroma.  So, think about it, if you have a small mouth opening with your nose up against the aluminum lid, where is the flavor coming from?  In order to get the beverage’s true flavor, traditional canned drinks must be poured to a glass.  There goes the convenience factor of buying a RTD cocktail.

Red Cup Spirits is introducing a line-up of RTDs that are truly “ready to drink”.   Red Cup Spirits features a twist-off lid, revealing a full-open mouth can that drinks similarly to a glass.  Simply twist off the lid, add ice directly to the can and drink.  When you need a break, twist the lid back on and save for later.

Using only premium ingredients, Red Cup Spirits is delivering three unique flavors:

  • 4 Summer Seasons Rum (to be drank Before Summer, Summer, After Summer and Next Summer)
  • P.O.E.T.S. Day Margarita (when it’s time to Piss Off Everything Tomorrow’s Saturday)
  • Off My Face Punch (for that feeling that something fun must have happened last night)
